The Banter Experience weaves psychedelic ambient worlds from live looping improvisations. It is one of many solo projects by multi-instrumentalist Justin H Brierley. This project, which lasted from mid 2016 to Dec. 2020, centered on using a Theremin primarily as a MIDI controller to play a variety of synths and samplers, both VST and hardware. MIDI data from the Moog Theremini was interpreted, looped, and routed by a custom Max/MSP patch, created with significant help by Arvid Tomayko.

The JubbTalks album/video series represents the end of this particular way of working. Each of the seven videos begins with a live performance, followed by a talk on what I’m doing and how and why. The performances seen in the videos* were recorded and are what can be heard on the album. (*one exception: Todt Duct on the album is not the same performance) Each Talk focuses on a different aspect of the work.
